So Robin Williams today really affected me. Not only was he an amazing human who was generous with his time and thought of others, he was truly smart and funny. I am not sure what kind of depression he had, but I know he was treating and fighting it. He was sober, checked himself into rehab, and was trying. As a daughter of a man who has severe (sometimes manic) depression, I know those days of suicide. When the medication is off, or one is forgotten...even when a bad day happens, it sometimes takes all your strength to fight. I will not tell my amazing fathers story, but he is a fighter. He has worked so hard to get to where he is today. And as strong as he is, sometimes he is tired of fighting. Its the kind of tired that wears you to the bones, that getting out of bed is literally more than you can handle, when the demons are larger than you can bear... My father has fought every demon so far. but I have seen him exhausted from his inner struggles. Whatever Robin Williams was going through, it is over. I hope he finds the peace he was looking for, and my thoughts and prayers to his loved ones. And to everyone suffering from depression, you are not alone. Many great figures have had depression. Including my wonderful, inspirational father. It affects us all, and whether you have mild to severe, I hope you get the help, strength and love you need.
