So.... Ryan has been quite ill, as Ive said previously, since last Spring. Ed, Ryans father, and THE BEST EX-HUSBAND in the WORLD, has just changed jobs and location to Halifax. (Congrats on that by the way, Ed!) We live in a rural environment and finances are such that I can not afford to be tooling about to the see and dos. Ours is a secluded and lonely life. I asked Ryan if, for a change of scenery he would like to try to live with Ed in Halifax. Ryan thought that would be a great idea! Ryan moved in with Ed this past Sunday. It was, of course, heartbreaking for me. More so when my first text from Ryan was when he arrived, I want to come home!. However, as this week has passed, the boys have been tearing up the town, Wendys, Starbucks, and some shopping. Oh, a new bike too! As well, Ryans first official day of school was today, and he LOVED it! Apparently, a great place to be - lunch break is an hour and half, and right beside a Wendys and McDonalds. The teachers seem to all be nuts, and theyve worked into his schedule a catch up period everyday. Awesome! As a parent, a lot of you are looking at this and saying you could never take this step. It is the weirdest feeling, I have to say. I am so happy for my son that my own sadness is taking a backseat. Sometimes doing the best for your child, although not what YOU want, is the best thing! Initially I thought of moving to Halifax as well, but with the house here and not being able to sell it for what its mortgaged at (yes, renting it out at a loss is an option), along with my cornucopia of pets, not the easiest thing to do. Ryan is only in high school for three more years and then off to RMC in Ontario, so I dont know if it would be financially prudent. Mentally prudent, yes, financially, meh... So there you have it. I love my son, and he wont say it but the little bugger loves me! We have the best relationship a parent could ask for. It was a hard decision (For me, kid was packed before I could say Halifax!) but one I am proud I made selflessly.
