So Sudden: The Departure of Another Academic Giant! PROFESSOR R.A. AKANMIDU You dont need to attend the class of a Scholar before drinking from the pool of his intellect. Thats exactly how I encountered distinguished Professor Akanmidu of Religions Department, University of Ilorin. Though I never offered any course he taught in Religions, I admired him all the years I was on campus because of facts I gleaned from his delivery on religion, philosophy and ethics which are highly scholarly. But now the MAN is gone! So sudden, shocking and unexpected. I cant just hold my heart together on the gravity of the loss. In life, I have come to realize that the End of A Man Is Certain,but when and how it comes is the mystery that God riddled the thought of man with. At this moment of our grief, I wish to register my condolence message to the entire Religions Family on the sudden departure of an Academic Giant,a fatherly Teacher,and a seasoned philosopher, Prof. R.A. Akanmidu. For sure,Baba was not just a Giant in the field of Religion and Philosophy, He was a father that had many children, a Teacher of excellence. He was hail and hearty as at the last time the people saw him. But when death comes, it doesnt negotiate. It just takes away those whom we love and we are left in surprise of how and why did it happen. Right now,though sad, we still have to appreciate God for creating such a wonderful scholar and letting him touch lives positively before going back HOME. Prof. Was a philosopher per excellence and his practical approach to life has been a light to the path of knowledge for many students,past and present. I tell you,when a scholar dies, he does not die. His works live on. Prof. has left contributions to the Academia,and when the day comes to celebrate the life of eminent and erudite experts that made Religion religious and teachable, Professor Akanmidus name will be noted and appreciated. Baba is not dead, he just went HOME. Though a sudden call it was! You and I must learn that life is like a drama/play. Its not the length that matters but the excellence of the performance. We however pray that God will grant us long life and prosperity so that we can serve God and Humanity. The Baba we register tributes for today has served God and Humanity. May God be with Faculty of Arts,the Heartbeat of the University of Ilorin. May he not allow our Faculty to become desolate. May he bless the students,preserve and protect our Lecturers. May God be with the family of Prof. Akanmidu,comfort them and strengthen them in all goodness through Jesus Christ our Lord, AMEN. Sleep on Beloved, Prof. R.A. Akanmidu. We love you,but God loves you more.
