So What is Goa Speaks About? - An Opinion. I was invited to Goa Plus and left the group because I thought, they had a very strange term and condition: they would have exclusive copyright to all that was written on their wall!! I wrote to them about it telling them that they may have a non-exclusive copyright but apparently they did not care. Goa Speaks as the name suggests is more about defining and expressing what our Goanness, our identity as Goans and then going on to express ourselves from that stance. This is a very high priority in Goa since I dont think we have paid sufficient social attention to this question or given it the appropriate social and political priority. It is possible that we do not have enough trained sociologists and anthropologists to help us do it ourselves. Ashish Nandy, a well acclaimed sociologist, [internationally well-known political psychologist and social theorist] whose writings dazzingly redefine the confines of sociology once expressed an opinion on this matter, I am unfortunately unable to reproduce and re-access as of now. A group like Goa Plus as the name suggests would be about connecting to the rest of India and also is in our interest and so much so in the interest of our fellow citizens in the rest and re-maining states of India. However in my opinion, without doing our homework on Goa Speaks, Goa Plus-thinking will be a disaster. Perhaps our fellow citizens in the rest of India can help us here and so it feels like a breath of fresh air when we have them invited, or they of themselves become members of this group. There has also been the issue of civility of discourse on Goa Speaks. We are all learning. And administration is part of the learning process. My experience yesterday and today with the Goa speaks administration has been heartening with respect to the tackling of uncivility and dealings with erring members. Without nurturing civility in discourse our forum, GS, is doomed to retard our progress. Besides we owe it to our youngster members to train them and help them solve their attending problems so that they are able to express themselves efficiently, lets say, parliamentarily. Im sure if not today, tomorrow they would be grateful to GS.
