So after 6 years of being a loyal, happy family member, Coffee gets brought to sit in a cage at Manhattan ACC because of “allergies”. How devastated this gorgeous dog must feel! Coffee has no way of knowing what he could have done that was so bad and has no way of understanding why the only people he’s known never came back for him. Those people tell us that Coffee is a bit wary of strangers and certainly, the whole ACC experience is fraught with “danger” for Coffee—strange people touching him, moving him around, never taking him out of that cage. But look closely at Coffee’s behavioral eval—he was absolutely fine when that hand tried to take his food and his toys and absolutely fine when that strange dog entered the room. ACC assumes that no one wants Coffee and they’ve put him on tomorrow’s euthanasia list and made him New Hope only. Tonight, Coffee needs an experienced dog person who understands that Gsd’s and Sharpeis are very proud dogs who are not necessarily into the “touchy, feely” things that folks at ACC tried to do to him and usually do terribly when confined to a cage 24x7. He needs someone who will be a strong leader all the while giving Coffee the respect and dignity he so deserves. If you’re that person, then start applying to rescues to foster or adopt Coffee.
