So after a goodnight sleep and a rice and vegetable breakfast we set out. Our group was composed of three teenage girls, who would help to do the cooking for the hundred or so people who would walk for hours from their home to learn about Jesus, and stay in the village where we would do the two day seminar. Another evangelist, Rovvie, joined us, who was short but strong, humble and gentle, yet full of Gods power, he spoke also at the seminar, and Yam a sweet young man who reminded me of a young, charming Michael Jackson, which I nicknamed him, and of course he was a gentleman and between him and Rovvie I never once had to carry my backpack on the 15+ mile hike down the mountain. (Against my protests of course, but perhaps had I had to carry my pack it would have taken us two days rather then 7.5 hours!!!) and then there was Bigyan, my kind interpreter and the leader of this excursion. Our first stop was the market where we purchased massive quantities of potatoes, onions, garlic, curry, rice, grain, and other various sundries. Then began our ascent up the rugged, rock filled road. Sometimes forging streams, compromising rutted hairpin turns, sometimes bottoming out the truck. I was crammed in the middle of two Nepali men, Bigyan and the driver, attempting to keep my legs clear from interfering with the gear shift by squashing poor Bigyan against the passenger door. Are you bored? He asked. Never, I replied with a smile, but he handed me his iPad anyways. He showed me how to play this game where you line up candies to crush through these boxes. After many failed attempts to pass the level I discovered that the game will subtly highlight the next move that youre supposed to make in order to make a good choice. I began waiting for the highlighted hints, and found this to be something to translate into my own life, waiting on the Holy Spirt to highlight something before I speak or act, especially when speaking over someone prophetically or praying for healing. This was my moment by moment practice when speaking at the two day seminar as I would prepare what I was going to say but end up doing something completely different, sometimes stopping and praying in the Spirit simply to know what to say next. You can read a crowd and know if theyre receiving truth or not and sometimes what I think is a good teaching completely goes over their heads, its so important to always be connected to the Spirits direction and guidance when were focused on Him!! After using all my turns on the game I turned my attentions to another one. Taking intermittent glances out the window and our growing altitude, I finally couldnt resist the view and put the technological entertainment away. We stopped for a break and I requested that I ride in the back of the truck (my favorite place to be) Bigyan looked at me incredulously and tried to talk me out of it but I continuously insisted until he let me! Its been a while since Ive had someone have such concern for my welfare, but he took his job at taking care Of this white missionary girl seriously. The back of the truck was bumpy, dusty, and glorious! The view incredible, the mountains majestic. It wasnt hard to see Gods handiwork as we bounced along those ancient roads. It was midafternoon by the time we reached the village we would be staying at for the next four days. More to come.....
