So, as much as I appreciate October and the pink flood that ensues in an attempt to raise awareness of this awful disease, I find it equally important, if not more so, to know what real cancer awareness is. Dont be taken by all of the products with pink ribbons. Really check them out - make sure money is actually donated to research and it isnt just a marketing ploy. Too many products are labeled with a ribbon in order to profit from the suffering of millions...billions of survivors and lost loved ones by playing on the good intentions of unsuspecting consumers. By all means, participate in any way you can. But while youre wearing your pink shirt, lapel ribbons or hair extensions, make sure you can say youre truly doing something to learn about, educate about and PREVENT this killer from striking you or someone you love. Pink is pretty...cancer is not.
