So as we all know, Getty Images has begun allowing millions of the photos in their databases to be used for free, and of course, this means that the photographers who shot those images will not be making money on those usages either. Getty initially stated that they felt that higher visibility would be helpful to their company. This article sheds a little more light on what Getty really stands to gain from this. When the free usages occur, Getty has the right to run ads for their company across the photo used for free on the site of the company or publisher using the free content. So in reality, what that means to the photographer is that not only do countless sites, blogs, companies and publishers get to use the photographers images for free, but Getty Images--A huge corporate entity--is ALSO using YOUR PHOTOS for free to advertise upon on potentially millions of sites!!! Hmmm...let me get this straight. All parties involved actually get something in this transaction, EXCEPT FOR THE CREATOR OF THE IMAGE!!! Why does this not bother the photographic community to mutiny level!? forbes/sites/stevenbertoni/2014/03/07/free-getty-images-no-threat-to-photo-market-says-shutterstock-ceo/
