So, big black jumping spider, right? Hes got this adolescent dirt dauber and is feasting away. I couldnt tell what it was, so when Sooj goes up to check, it startles him (possibly her, hard to tell with spiders, but its big and hairy as jumping spiders go so Ill go with he) and he drops it. I feel badly for interrupting his dinner and try to give it back. Of course he runs for it. But hes on this 2x4 porch post, so I poke the dirt dauber corpse up over the edge where he can see it and give it a little jiggle. He jumps for it and noms away on its head again. After a few seconds, he drops it again. This time when the zombie bug rises from the side of the 2x4, it freaks the spider out, and he throws up his arms in an impressive threat display, then looks confused- his arms sagged slowly back down and he kind of cocked his head to the side in some weird arachnid parody of a dog. I danced it back and forth in front of him a few times and after some seeming consideration, He jumps the thing again, noms for a couple of seconds, apparently realizes hes sucked out everything tasty already, and this time seems to Throw it, rather than just drop it. I come up to him again, and he started to run off, but then he just looked at me, considering like. I waved and sat back down. He went off on his own business. Interesting interaction. Weird to think that something that doesnt have a Brain, really, to speak of can have what seems to be thought and personality. I may be anthropomorphising there, but thats certainly what it looked like to me.
