So, has everyone that is freaking out over Ebola gotten their flu vaccine yet? Consider this: 1. The flu is airborne. Everyone is talking about whether or not Ebola is airborne and coming up with their best (mostly uninformed) hypothesis of its going to mutate and be airborne scenario. No need to come up with Hollywood visions with the flu (maybe until after you have the flu). 2. A pandemic (that means country or worldwide epidemic if you didnt know - in this case worldwide) in 1918 killed between 20 to 100 million people in 1918. I am always surprised by how few people know about this (get this book for a decent history --- https://nytimes/books/first/k/kolata-flu.html ) 3. The flu vaccine is safe and effective. It is a combination of the best estimates of which flu strain will be prevalent each year based on scientific evidence. 4. If you dont care to protect yourself, then think of it this way - you are protecting those with weakened immune systems and those who cant get the vaccine through herd immunity. Got an older parent or young toddler? Then get vaccinated. Have a pregnant friend or family member?
