So have let the aftermath of last weeks defeat sit with me for a week. Ribs are still an awful mess and the pride still hurts a little but having viewed the footage i am convinced that his leg couldnt have held up much longer and that given the firepower we both have the fight was only ever gonna end in the destruction of one of us. I started fast and went for damage, the small ring didnt help my game plan of controlling the distance but it meant i could get to work more on his leg and keeping him off balance. The damage i caused spurred him into serious action and the result was that he went all out to get a finish and managed to find it. I am gutted with the result but happy with my performance and honestly think it could have gone either way but at this level one move can be vital and so it proved. I have had a blinding career and top level fighting for me is done as the commitment required is now more than i can muster as my gym and family grows. I may make a one off appearance a few levels down at some point in the future when the time is right but my time at the top has to come to an end. I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has helped me get to where i am, i am so humbled by the career i have had and the people i have met, trained with and gotten to know. So many talented fighters never make it this far because they dont have the stuff to overcome injuries and the psychological setbacks as well as keeping their shit together to manage to train consistently for long enough and hard enough to reach this level. I did it and for that i am really proud. Special mentions need making to Dale jester Wood one of my best friends and biggest inspirations and always behind me when ive needed him. Neil Kelly a personal hero both as a fighter and a coach and the missing ingredient for much of my career. The respect and admiration i have for these two men is limitless. Mr Andrew Hennessy huge thanks for allowing me to be part of your vision for kickboxing and for giving me so many amazing opportunities. Charlotte Crossland for giving me the stability, support and love needed to handle a career of fighting at ever increasing levels and to my kids Ashleigh Crossland Alex Crossland, Max and Caitlyn who have missed out on time with me during fight camps but have always understood and have always given their full support. To my dad Neil Crossland for taking me along to my first kickboxing show, the first lesson and for being my support ever since. Finally to the whole family at The Combat Academy. Thank you all so much for inspiring me, motivating me and supporting me through thick and thin and for being as loyal in defeat as you have been in victory. I truly believe that we have some magic at that gym and the experiences i have had both in victory and defeat will pay dividends for the talent we will continue to produce from our ever growing and thriving community. :) x
