So, here is my opinion/reaction to the Philippine situation: -What happened was something even Hollywood could not have thought of. It really gets me very emotional when I see and hear the various reports. I personally dont have family down there but I have friends who are there. Thank God they are ok. -How bad was this typhoon? You know how a tornado rips apart a city for about a minute then goes away? Think of how strong the winds from that Tornado is, add non-stop rain for 2 straight days with no electricity and flood waters from the surrounding ocean rising around you. -A BIG THANK YOU to all who have helped, donated, and prayed for the Philippines. We do really appreciate it! -The provinces that got hit the hardest (Samar and Leyte) are separate islands about twice the size of Texas. Its not like the U.S.A. where its one whole country. Logistically, it is a nightmare! You need ships and planes to get to them. Thats why its taking awhile to get help there. The roads are littered with downed trees and debris. -Right now, Filipinos should stop blaming the govt. for being slow. Once it gets better, THEN we should look at what precautions and actions should take place. No one knew how strong this typhoon would be! The govt. cannot do this alone. Thats why the world is helping us. _Some reports are comparing the Japan Tsunami to the Philippines and the relief efforts. The main island of Japan was hit but only the east side. The WHOLE island of Samar and Leyte was engulfed by the typhoon. They were cut off from the world for those 2 days. Again, Logistical nightmare!! -Right after Hurricane Katrina, there were looters there too. Its not a country thing, its a survival thing.... -Help if you can. If not, say a prayer for The Philippines...Thank you....
