So how many inches of snow have the Daily Express predicted for this week? I cannot bear to read the details but I see the headlines. But there is a brief cold snap on the way... Tonight will be cloudy and dry, high pressure still ruling, some patches of fog are likely to develop by dawn, around 2C. Tuesday will be cloudy, early mist and fog will gradually clear during the morning, there may be a little afternoon brightness but unlikely. Fog perhaps developing again in the evening but it should clear overnight as a weak weather front approaches. 6C by day and 4C by night. Wednesday will be cloudy with the odd spot of drizzle or light rain. Clearing overnight. 7C by day and possibly down to 0C with a slight frost risk overnight. Thursday sees a rather deep active area of low pressure to the north-east of Scotland which will bring a band of rain southwards in the afternoon and into the evening, introducing much colder air. There is a chance of some snow on the back-edge of this band of rain, too early for any certainty right now. 7C by day and -1C in a cold NNW wind overnight. Friday will be a fine but cold day, perhaps only 2C. A widespread frost overnight, down to -2C but the really cold feel will decrease. Saturday sees high pressure building around north-east France, giving another fine day, with hopefully some sunshine though I cannot promise that as it stands. Chilly at 5C. 1C overnight as the wind turns to the south. Sunday and Monday should see temperatures gradually recover further towards mild, with the wind direction likely to be from the south or south-west. Remaining mostly dry. Temperatures should eventually reach around 11C. Atlantic rain will eventually become victorious during next week as weather fronts cross the UK bringing wind and rain but this may not last for long. My eyes are on where the high pressure will next feature - the models are hinting at Scandinavia after 15th December and that increases the chance of a White Christmas...something I wasnt especially expecting. The next few days will be telling and I will get to work on publishing my winter forecast.
