So i witnessed what I think is one of the gutsiest performances i have ever seen on a paintball field yesterday at GPL Event #4. The Freedom Angels entered the tournament yesterday after finishing a solid 14th out of 23 teams the previous event. They also went in down their starting snake player, Gaby Kropff #27 and former Freedom Angel back player Leah Mumford. With adjustments like Pat Kent starting in the snake and adding Freedom Paintball Nation player Tommy Leavey, they had a solid roster. The Angels battled all day sweeping two teams and taking two teams to a best of three tie breaker. During that run they lost starting back player Melanie McGrath due to a knee injury (dislocated knee cap, eeeeew).lol Coach CJ Johnson filled in for Melanie and did a great job. This was Coach CJ Johnsons first time running with his team and you couldnt tell. It was definitely inspirational to see Pat Kent play some of the hardest, grueling, and relentless snake play i have ever seen. Also, Melanie totally disregarding past knee injuries and potential reinjury just to make a spot was mind blowing. Megan Lowe, front player for the Angels was all over the place. Sliding into every bunker, bunkering everybody within 30 feet of her and showing everybody why shes a problem on the field. I actually remember running to my car to get her some sandwich crackers because Melanie told me that she was about to pass out. I got back as she was running on the field and i yelled for her so that i can give her the crackers. She took two with her hands shaking and said you know what? give me the whole pack because the rest of my team might need em. Megan, totally going down in my mental paintball hall of fame :) Nikki Improto, starting back player, was her usual self. She never get flustered, always disciplined to her lane assignments, ridiculous communication and elite gun skills. Nikki is definitely the rock that anchors the team when shit gets real. Tommy Leavey was new to the roster but he did everything you would ask from a role player. Every team needs role players and Tommy was as cold blooded and consistent as you can get. Nice work Tommy! The Angels shocked the GPL world by taking 4th place yesterday at OXCC - Outdoor Xtreme Chesapeake City. I cant wait to see what The Freedom Angels do next event. I wish the Angels success in the future, except when your playing Crims Resurrection of course.lol
