So in order to get my Real Estate License, I have to submit a bunch of paperwork regarding my DUI from 2009 and the fact that I completed the ARD program. I also have to write a short letter describing the events of that night. There are a lot of things that slip my mind on a weekly or even daily basis, but the events of that night almost 5 year ago are forever burned into my memory. I remember every single detail (with the exception of the small pieces where I blacked out during the crash) from what it felt like emotionally, to the physical perceptions of the entire event from the Oh shit moment of realizing how bad the rest of my night was going to be a half a second before my car flipped, to being released from the police station and subsequently the hospital. The only reason Im alive right now is a mixture of luck and some unknown force (I tend to think my late grandfather) looking out for me. I think the gravity of certain situations cant be fully understood until youve lived them, that being said if youre reading this...please, please, please dont ever drink and drive. I will live with that night burned into my mind for the rest of my life and as bad as it was, could have gone so much worse at the drop of a hat. Sleep on the sidewalk, call a friend, call a cab, physically accost a friend if you need to get their keys, but whatever you do, dont take that chance and dont let someone else take it either.
