So it doesnt surprise me that Toncontin Airport in Tegucigalpa, Honduras is #1. Ive been thinking of my brother Rene Romero for a few weeks now, and I miss his presence in my and my daughter and granddaughters life. He was an airline Pilot based out of Miami, working for Tan/Sasa Airlines in Honduras. He lost his life on approach to Toncontin Airport in March 1990. That morning, I was told, they flew into a bad rainstorm, experienced windshear where they lost altitude, then attempted an instrument landing due to low visibility, but their instruments failed. They crashed into the mountain top, almost out of the ridge, but not quite I understood that he died doing what he was passionate about. I remember flying down to his funeral the next day. As I looked out the window, preparing for our descent into the valley, surrounded/ringed by the mountain range, I overheard some passengers saying that the pilots who did this extreme maneuvering every day were heroes in their eyes. Yes, that was my brother, Rene Romero. I will always miss you and your funny self. ✈️
