So it seems like it’s been a long time since we started this - TopicsExpress

So it seems like it’s been a long time since we started this effort, and we’ve had many frustrating days when it seemed like we were getting nowhere, but we’re happy to report that we now seem to be making progress. We’ve had a lot of contact with insurers, suppliers, customs etc. and it has taken some time to get where we are. So in terms of where we are now- as many of you are aware, one of the main suppliers in Oldcastle, Currans, has acknowledged that they unknowingly supplied fuel earlier this year that appears to have been contaminated- this they firmly state is not their doing and in fact came from their supplier. We hope to hold another public meeting in the Showhall in Oldcastle on Friday 5th December @ 20.00 and we look forward to filling you all in fully then. In the meantime though, here’s a rough outline of where we are. You may recall we held our first large public meeting in Oldcastle on the 3rd October at which we asked anyone affected to complete a form noting the damage to their car. Following this meeting we made contact with those people who had had purchased their fuel in Oldcastle and who had reported damage to their cars. We then asked this group of people to submit a claim with invoices for the work. We presented in excess of 80 claims to the supplier some weeks ago and ever since we have been chasing up to see what’s happening. The slow process and lack of correspondence has been very frustrating, but we are glad to report that we are now seeing progress. Currans have been working with their insurers to compensate those “legitimate” customers affected. They state that they have been going thru a process of validating claims and they have come up with a process to validate customers which appears to be working. We note this week correspondence from the insurers stating that they have settled a number of claims in the last week, and indeed we have seen evidence of same. We have also been advised by a number of people that they have been contacted by Currans asking them to drop in to see the staff so that it can be confirmed that they are a customer and we envisage their claims being validated thereafter. We have repeatedly been asked by people who are currently experiencing problems with their cars or from those who did not make the public meeting as to what they should do and it has taken quite some time for us to get an answer, and it may not be to everyone’s satisfaction. So if you are a customer of Currans or McDermott & Galligan in Oldcastle and you have/had a problem with your car, both the insurers and Currans are requesting that you make direct contact with Currans/XL Fuel’s office in Oldcastle- we suggest in writing and follow up with a phone call. If you have not yet had your car repaired, Currans are requesting that you contact them directly and they will arrange to have it repaired. You may also wish to have your car independently inspected or approach your own insurers. Currans insurers have advised that they will consider claims for loss of excess or No Claims Bonus. We have asked for a more direct point of contact with the insurance company and have been advised that we can expect same shortly. If, however, you were not a customer of the two suppliers mentioned above, our advice is that you must in the first instance contact your supplier or take the matter up with your insurers. Your supplier may well be able to assist you and may also be insured against this issue. Should you have receipts for fuel and or a sample of fuel from your car if you believe you still have some contaminated fuel in your possession, please keep these carefully as you may require them in the future. It would appear however, that the bad batch of fuel may now be gone from the supply chain as the number of cars affected is reducing to a trickle. We look forward to seeing as many of you as can make it at the next public meeting- it is provisionally set for Friday 5th @ 20.00- we will confirm this over the coming days.
