So, let me ask some questions about political parties - tell me which one fits ... Which party thinks that our environment is important, and worth saving? Which party thinks that the science about climate change is bullshit, and that we can ignore it, and all will be well? Which party thinks that we, as a nation, are better off when our people are healthy and educated? Which party thinks that education and healthcare are perks that you should get only when you can afford them? Which party thinks that we do better when we can raise people out of poverty and build a strong middle class? Which party thinks that being poor simply means youre lazy? Which party holds that there should be things held in common trust, like national parks, waterways and the like? Now, personally, I dont like the monied interests who are buying our elections, and I want a government of the people, by the people, and for the people - rather than of the wealthy, by the wealthy and for the wealthy. Its probably for this reason that corporations are trying to get redefined as persons, but at least for now, I believe that if we want a change, we need to change from within - to take back our parties, and to kick the money out of politics. The French Revolution was pretty much about the same thing were facing right now - they were being ruled by people, and wanted to govern themselves. Thats what I want - but Id much rather do it peacefully. The GOP loves to spout historical documents, but thy only spout the bit that they can twist to their ends - in their view, everything should be privatized and owned - that will only further entrench the power of wealth. They cite the Magna Carta as a founding document, but ignore much of it - such as the idea of that which was held in common. The GOP wants to keep selling off public lands to private interests, they think that water should be for sale, and they believe in the inalienable right to pollute the air. This is in direct opposition to the Magna Carta, which held that certain lands and water and air were to be held in common, for the use of the wealthy and poor alike. It was a recognition that the poor could use the commons for firewood, to feed themselves, to work at a trade, for fishing and hunting and the like. No matter how much the GOP refers to such founding documents, they have, in fact, ignored them, and sold out to monied interests. This was the basis for the legend of Robin Hood. Robin Hood was the defender of the commons, and that is what we desperately need today. Damh the Bard has a great song about this, and maybe we should all - no matter what nation, fight back against the monied interests who are systematically stealing the commons from us. https://youtube/watch?v=i8DoHLdYrdo
