So loads of rumours circulating about law firms, touts, - TopicsExpress

So loads of rumours circulating about law firms, touts, businesses, civil servants etc. buying shed loads of John Bishop tickets. Who knows what is true and what isnt? Lots of folks want to blame the organisers for not capping the amount of tickets per purchase, lots of folk pointing fingers at individuals. General feeling of discontent and sadness, bitterness and anger. He better be funny to justify all that. Heres the thing though. For months all Ive read on here is The States need to stop telling us what to do, forcing taxes on us and leaving us broke etc....They are the islands organisers whether you like it or not. Many of the issues they have to legislate on could be dealt with by the public a long time before they even become issues. Ive said it before and dont mind saying it again....It is the choices we make in life that have more bearing on our Island, community, and each other than the decisions of beaureaucrats and politicians who are eventually forced to make rulings and laws to compensate for the lack of judgement, action/ inaction of the public. Why should the organisers enforce a rule that societies moral code should compensate for? The shared responsibility for each others happiness and welfare should govern over each individuals decision, no? What has happened to the moral fibre that once knitted our community together? What of the global conscience? It must still exist if there is such a continually shared sense of global injustice. Has it been lost with the decline of religion in schools and in our lives? The fact that bible stories and sunday school are all but a thing of the past? Or is it just good old fashioned greed, the love of money that governs our lives making it hard for us to take an option that isnt ruled by ego, monetry gain and percieved status? Whatever it can be attributed to, surely enough is enough. Its most certainly not a new situation. Jesus spent alot of his time talking of money, taxes, wealth and what can bring about true happiness in this life. Ghandi warned of the ill effects of a global, corporation driven society over small self sufficient communities and to be fair not many people have truly listened to them, and those that claim to havent really heard them...so what chance do I have? Absolutely zero...but this is where it starts. Individuals making good choices for themselves, their families, and their fellow man. Whether it be the vehicle you drive, your choice of activity in your spare time, the way you raise your children, how many tickets you buy for a concert, your attitude towards luxury and necessity and where they interject....its all relevent and it all impinges on others lives. Most people recognise this and say So what? which is the very motto of apathy, non-action and acceptance of all the things that are unjust but changeable, especially here on this small self-governed Island. I was all set to leave Guernsey a few short weeks ago but circumstance conspired to keep me here......I dont believe things happen for a reason, but while Im here, I am determined to make a change, make a difference and make good of an unforseen and unwanted situation. The majority of folks, I know, are good people. Tryers, workers, grafters people that do give something back, and appreciate that the best things in life are free. They also appreciate how short that lifetime can be.....The great fund and awareness raising that goes on daily, in Guernsey, is testament to its generosity and its giving nature. This is the spirit of the majority; the attitude that can take back and steer the Island with the well considered decisions of the people. Lets not force the hands of politicians to need to tell us what to do, lets already have acted on it and changed it. Lets consider our impact on our island, its wildlife and human occupants. Lets share our cars and possessions, make less noise, do our elderly neighbours shopping, let people cross the road, smile and greet one another, compliment one another, trade services and goods, engage in acts of kindness (random or otherwise) and lets not lose sight of that golden rule.....Treat others as youd have them treat you. Life really is too short......Sorry for getting all preachy and generalising, cant help it sometimes.
