So many mixed emotions tonight... thinking about my Grandfather, - TopicsExpress

So many mixed emotions tonight... thinking about my Grandfather, and what he must have had going through his mind 70 years ago getting ready to land along the beaches, his first visual experience of death, fear, pride, and determination. Knowing the battle they were about to face... Speaking only a few times about the experiences of that War. From landing,,,, to the loss of those serving along side. A buddy of his shaving beside him in the morning, mid conversation his buddy drops dead, a bullet through his head, and how it took him and not my Grandfather. How some soldiers took shelter under a tank over night from the rain, only to be found when the tank rolled out,,,, the ground softened and crushed them,,,,, not all casualties were killed from the enemy.... With respect Ill be honouring those who are now almost completely gone. and to the thousands who fought, lived or died. Shifting to more closer to home, the shootings in Moncton...... How is it, after the fact, we more and more commonly hear, there were signs. and why is it, even the Police will tell you, there is nothing we can really do, until the person tries something. Most postal hunters dont intend to live,,,, or return home after the shooting. So he either has been stocking up, or he is going to shoot his way out. Which means more victims....... But to blatantly walk down the street, fully loaded.... I cant even begin to imagine the tension around that area, from Civilian, to Officer. If anything its a reminder of what our Law Enforcement faces as a constant threat, every day,,, to protect people like us.... To those families effected..... I cant express in words how you must be feeling,,, and for every day, the loss will always be reminding...... An Officers Oath, to serve and protect. This shouldnt have happened. The R.C.M.P. needs to have more officers for these smaller rural areas. Most officers are solo, and few..... I hope Canada wakes up to this alert, and makes some needed changes. To the Officers, and Comrades, and Service Men and Women who have taken the Oath, to Serve and Protect. Living and Past. Thank you for what you have done, and for what you do.
