So many times we get asked how come our support system is so - TopicsExpress

So many times we get asked how come our support system is so strong. Often times, I ask myself this same question, but if I step back and reflect on our lives before cancer (and during cancer for that matter), I believe I do have my answer. I dont need any self righteous, negative comments to follow this post. We are continuously asked, so I am now answering. For many years our family served others, without ever expecting any thing in return. Alan, who is very active in the biking community, helps others with their bikes, changing tires, or tuning up their bikes, or simply giving others encouragement when they want to give up. Andrew, our oldest son, donated his time helping other better their swim strokes, or encouraged them with their running, and tutored my friends children in math. Trenton, our youngest, donated a lot of time helping and encouraging other kids better their dives, he volunteers in his 6th grade science teachers class when he can. All three of my boys loved volunteering for Game and Fish (especially Nicholas), Special Olympics and for races in the running community. We did all these things together. We volunteered time into our homeschooling community, into our public school community, into our church, or wherever we were or are at the time. Simply smiling at the cashier, even when they are grumpy. Just investing in people, even if your paths only connect for a very short time. Serving others, without anyone ever knowing. No expectations. Ever. It doesnt cost money to smile at someone and tell them they are amazing. Whatever you believe in, I believe this is fairly universal. For us, God has placed some incredible people in our lives and we are forever grateful. I dont know if this is the answer, but I believe it is what has worked for us. So instead of making negative comments if you feel we are blessed too much...take that step and go make a meal for someone else, find someone who is hurting and do something for them, go leave a gift on someones door step, ring and run, or pay for the meal in the car behind you at the drive through. Lifes to short for negativity, have fun with it. Now back to our warrior, Nick. He had a rough last night, this morning he is soundly resting. Please pray for our kiddo.
