So now that Ive stopped studying for the day and started drinking, - TopicsExpress

So now that Ive stopped studying for the day and started drinking, there is an issue that I have been kicking around in my head for about the past 5 years or so and never had an outlet to discuss, until now...Religion and Atheism...here we go...I was raised Catholic by my parents - went to church every Sunday, attended Catholic grade school, and never questioned my beliefs until shortly after I graduated high school and left for the AF. My beliefs and faith deteriorated over the years through various ways: contradictions the church taught, learning the history of the church, as well as the repeated patterns of the church being proven wrong (earth revolves around the sun, witches DONT exist and need to be burned, and now evolution), but most of all: thinking for myself for once. On the other hand, atheisms primary argument is that since the religious cant prove there is a God, then there isnt one. This is a fallacy, lack of proof doesnt prove the opposite. They appeal to the churches current disbelief of evolution and inability to prove God exists and so, therefore there is no God. In my opinion, atheism is just as much as a religion based on blind faith as all the other ones. I dont believe any religion is 100% correct and I dont understand how you could claim that there is a God or not. I dont really know how to classify myself now. The best thing I can come up with is an Agnostic Christian. I still believe there is a God, and Jesus has been proven to have existed in the historical sense, and he did had a huge following of people, something I dont believe a normal person wouldnt have been able to accomplish in that time. Atheism discusses the how that we are here but neglects the why, but the opposite can be said for organized religion. So my question is: does anyone feel that I am wrong somewhere in my thinking, or is there an angle that I am missing in my over-analysis of this subject? Let the offending begin!
