So off to the drive in. Great. Cheap night out, over excited kids. New car with a boot that goes up and seats down, sleeping bags, maccas on the way. Apparently this is going to be a good family experience. A movie about dragons, what could go wrong? STRESS. LOTS. Dripping hamburgers at 110 kmp, got lost, we knew it was somewhere near Pentridge, but Alana is no good with touchy feely navigation thingies. Kids wouldnt shut up long enough for us to hear the directions from our phone. WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE MELWAYS? Got there, great, got a spot, parked backwards, boot up...too many pillows, kids car seat in the way. Trailer on other screens of some woman being chopped up, no kids, look over there! There, over there! Car seats wont go down, movies started, had to get the car owners manual out, by the glove box light, car seats 101. Right, kids settled in sleeping bags, now time for rod and I to settle in. We dont fit. I get in with Stan and Neil on, my new friends, rod tried to squeeze in but the two of us are sitting there in the dark, squashed up, heads hard up against the ceiling of the car, looking at each other. We could have paid more and gone somewhere with a seat each and heating. Fancy doing this. So fortunately I could take my body parts off and in the end we used them as head rests. So there we all were, all crammed in, piled on top of each other, out in the cold, together. And yes it was a great family night out. Got home late, kids asleep. Happy. And the movie even had three different characters with amputations. Now thats a first. It seems to becoming a mainstream thing. Soon we will see people all over the place pulling body parts off to make things less squishy at the drive in. Or next time well take some deck chairs.
