So sad about Robin Williams. I saw someone describe him as an actor that could pull off absolute ridiculousness and intense intelligence effortlessly and the amazing thing was that it often came in the same breath. Maybe its trivial to mourn an actor you dont know, especially when there are other bigger things going wrong in the world, but actors bring us characters and characters have an indelible impact on people when they are taken to heart. Robin Williams played those kinds of characters. So, whether its him as himself urging you not to lose That single spark of madness or as John Keating giving soul-stirring speeches in The Dead Poets Society, or, as I first met him, the zany blue Genie who just wanted his freedom in Aladdin, id venture a guess that he, at some point, made you cry and then laugh before you were able to dry the tears. It was his gift, and the world will miss it and miss him.
