So sad to say that we are unable to make the reunion. Our work - TopicsExpress

So sad to say that we are unable to make the reunion. Our work schedules in Houston just couldnt accommodate us so soon after the holidays. We are totally disappointed. However, it does not minimize the memories that I have for The Cabaret and everyone there. It was my safe haven. Having moved to Kansas City in 1996, alone, and with very few friends, I started going to the Cab on Sundays after volleyball at Mill Creek Park for Beer Bust. It holds so many memories for me. It was a refuge to where I was able to watch Ellens coming out episode. It was a place where I could be myself, unhindered by who I was. Someone independent. Someone proud. Not long after, John Koop was holding auditions for a new dance troupe. And I was lucky enough to be a part of it. We decided on a name and called ourselves Rage. With that, I was able to help out each Sunday for the Flo Show, which benefited amfAR. We were able to do amazing things like perform at Kansas City Pride, AIDSWalk Kansas City, Gay Ski Week in Aspen, and Gay Days in Pensacola. All in the name of representing the Cabaret. I had the opportunity to meet Margaret Cho, Dr. Mathilde Krim, Jody Watley, Jennifer Holliday, and Kathy Sledge. All at the Cabaret. But nothing compares to the friends I met there. Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday was an escape. Everyone who went there was like family to me. From the front door, the bar backs, the bartenders, the djs, owners, performers, patrons, posers, twinks, muscle boys, pre tran, post tran, gay, straight, bi, confused--we were all one big happy, slightly dramatic, family. Whether it was Post Office on the old side, playing pool and throwing darts on the small side, or when the Cabaret expanded into the adjacent former dinner theatre with the revolving stage, and dance floor. It was all at the Cabaret. Each and every one of you mean the world to me. The friendship that weve maintained over the years has been nothing short of amazing. But also, meeting the love of my life there is something I will never forget and I am forever grateful. And it was at the Cabaret. I miss those days dearly. The Cab was my Moulin Rouge. I miss all of you with a lump in my throat. And a hole in my heart. Much love to you all. Daniel Persing.
