So the Kent Police have asked me to ask all of my Facebook friends - TopicsExpress

So the Kent Police have asked me to ask all of my Facebook friends to pass this around and educate the public. Sorry for the long read but it could save you $$$. Please share! There is a PSE scam going around right now. The scammers are targeting businesses. They called our olympia office telling them that our power was going to be cut off and the disconnect crew is scheduled to arrive today. Since olympia doesnt pay our bills they took down info for me to call and straighten it out. When I called the 800 number the automatic answering service states that you have reached PSEs disconnect team and to enter an extension if you have one (which I did). I grilled the guy extensively. Our last bill shows were current. All our payments have cleared the bank. They have an answer for every question. And are very sophisticated. They tell you to stop the disconnection you have to make a same day payment. Looked up payment places near me. Said to go to Rite Aid and talk to the cashiers there and they would walk me through the steps. I know rite aid can take PSE payments. I got an employee number, a disconnect number, a customer complaint number, a disconnection truck number. Was told as soon as their internal error was figured out I would receive a refund for my payments not posted correctly. Apologized for the inconvenience. Said they will make sure through their investigation how the mix up happened so it wouldnt happen again. Thanked me for my past prompt payments. Stated they could see our long standing good payment status but the last three months must have posted to a different account. Shared a personal story of a similar situation that happened to them. Tons of details. So, off to the bank and Rite Aid I went, in this weather I cant have olympia without power and could not afford the time for PSE to research the error in their system. Once I got to Rite Aid I flagged someone down to help me and told them my story. The guy at Rite Aid saved me. He said this sounds weird after I told him my story. He said call PSE at a number publicized on their website and ask whats up. He said theres a PSE scam thats active in our area. I called PSE and he was right. Saved me $998.12. You are supposed to pay using green dot same day payment service. I dont know how that works or how they were ultimately going to end up with my money because it didnt get that far. After thanking the Rite Aid employee I drove straight to the police station because I knew I had an active number. They called and were impressed with the scammers set up. He yelled at the guy on the phone and told them to knock it off cause they were going to come after them. The police officer told me they knew of several businesses that had been nailed. They are hoping that the fraud team will be able to catch the ring but they are often international crime rings, so theres little hope. Be very vigilant! The hot tip from the police man is to google a number before you call it back with the word scam typed in after the number. The Internet will then alert you to the fraudulent status of the number. One last thing, Id really like Rite Aid to get some good will out of this. They have alerted all their employees to this scam on a corporate level so their associates know what to look for. I love a company thats out their trying to protect its customers. I dont shop at rite aid but they just earned my business.
