We have servants and maids, drivers and cooks, chefs and stewards, - TopicsExpress

We have servants and maids, drivers and cooks, chefs and stewards, watchmen and gardeners at our places, homes and some of these retinues serve us abroad as well......without them, our lives in general and the Better halves in particular will be a hell, and more so a bigger hell for the hubbies through the courtesy of the ladies at home.....Seldom we look into the lives of these hapless souls and understand their problems.... While in China, we had two Chines maids, one to assist in keeping the house in order and assist my wife in her house hold endeavours while the second one exclusively looked after Sameer, The former one worked for us relentlessly during our entire stay and was a great soul. Her name was Shahju. She had two small kids, their English names being Christopher and Lilly..... Shahju was a wonderful character, always smiling, very hardworking and extremely jolly in nature. Never she was late or absent from her duty and would never crib, complain, argue or raise her voice in protest for anything. She would bring her lunch along, that consisted of some white rice, few boiled veggies and a small piece of fish, and eat during her lunch break. She was living at some distance and would commute daily on her Electric bike...Her bike was in a terrible shape and looked like Pakistans law and order situation....tapes and bandages woven all around giving it a sadistic look......since she could not earn much, she and her husband had to rely on that shambled state of the bike which broke down so often... We made a plan to surprise her.....On Sameers second birthday, we invited her and her children for the party and her children thoroughly enjoyed, wining a few prizes in the process. But it was a bigger wonderment being awaited......My wife asked all the children and Shahju to move down to the garage......there something was covered in a huge wrapper, and Shahju, while having Sameer in her lap, was asked to open the wrapper....There was a brand new electric bike, which Shahju had desired and prayed to buy for so many years, but couldnt afford........The keys of the bike were handed over to her as a birthday present from Sameer......She was overjoyed, though initially she refused to accept such a bigger and costlier gift, but later she succumbed to our pressure.......The entire crowd of kids erupted into a big applause and she quickly wiped her tears, hugging her kids and Sameer in the process......... I could never bought the happiness for a billion dollars that I feel even now, when I recall the feelings of Shahjus gratitude and brightened faces of her children...... Some snaps of the event in pictures, and I am thankful to so many friends and their kids who made our day through their kind presence...Muhammad Riaz, Hameed Farooq, Hammad Ahmed, Kamal Akhtar, Zubair Shafiq and Fahim Khan.....
