So there we are having a quick dive off rottnest and my dive buddy rick Hudson starts acting weird , looking around like a bloody meerkat . He wasnt telling me anything but he is one of the best divers Ive dived with so if hes worried so was I ! After a couple of minutes I saw what was worrying him , 7 foot bronze whaler was really buzzing us and getting more aggro by the minute . We werent sure of our bearings for the boat so decided to go to the top to look . Then it got really scary , we were a couple of hundred meters from the boat with a strong wind and current against us , we went back to the bottom and starting swimming back . This is where our stories differ , I thought just swim casually back to the boat and now weve left the rocks the shark wont follow us over the sand (made sense at the time) . I could see rick about 5 m behind me just cruising , all good . What was really happening was the shark was coming right up to him and had now been joined by a huge sting ray . Ricks theory that the shark might eat the ray made sense at the time as well . Im cruising hes fighting like a musketeer. We scramble onto the boat exhausted from the long swim and our deckie steve coolly informs us the shark had followed me right to the ladder .thats when I realised why rick was still swimming like Michael phelps when we hit the ladder and I was still cruising ! Sometimes its best not to know !!!
