So this has been going around lately and Ill tell you why I WILL NOT sign this petition. • People comparing racial discrimination to discrimination of body modification. You cant liken your choice in adornment to the discrimination of a person born with darker skin. Its apples and oranges. Theyre still fruit but not the same. Racial discriminination is not a choice, your tattoos and piercings are. • Piercings and food do not go and in hand. Thats a health and safety thing that people are just going to have to understand and get over. This petition would not affect an employers right to deny work based on health and safety anyways. So McDonalds and Tim Hortons still dont have to hire you. • I understand that employers SHOULD have the right to hire people based on wether or not they feel that persons overall appearance will affect their business BECAUSE body modifications still arent fully accepted. If I go into an interview with stained shirt and ripped pants, the employer has every right to turn me down. • Bottom line: body modification acceptance is not something we can push at all and by doing so, we look like whining, self entitled brats. We made the CHOICE to look this way and with every choice, theres going to be consequences and responsibilities which we were fully aware of before doing so. I definitely want to pioneer acceptance of alternative lifestyles and appearance within the professional world. Crying about it and trying to force the issue is not the way to do it at all. • Only time will help this issue.
