Altruism is virtuous because its required for nurturing a baby; brutality is evil because it brings harm to babies. All social instincts that lead to stable family structures are virtuous because they produce and nourish babies. All social instincts that lead to warfare and violence are evil because they bring harm to babies. And then I thought, you know what, Im pretty sure that this is how our naive moral intuitions already work. I figured this one out for you, philosophers! Youre welcome!
