So, through a miracle thus proving there are soccer gods, the right teams either lost yesterday, or played to a draw and failed to seal their playoff spots, thus boiling The Portland Thorns playoff chances to ONE scenario; Beat Seattle today, at home, and they are in to the post season. Given that The Seattle Reign locked-up their playoff spot weeks ago, it would seem as though they have nothing to play for and will rest their starters. But, I consider punking your regional rival and ending their playoffs hopes in a crushing fashion on their home turf something to play for. Id do it if I were the Reign coach. Is that bad coaching? Thinking in the moment and not big picture? Maybe. But, it also sends a message... were legit, and dont you forget it. It would also create a heated rivalry which is what leagues need to build their narratives. Steelers VS Ravens. 49ers VS Seahawks. Peyton Manning VS Bill Bellicheck. Packers VS Bears.
