So, to catch everybody up who, like me, took advantage of the snow - TopicsExpress

So, to catch everybody up who, like me, took advantage of the snow day to sleep in: theres a parishwide curfew tonight from 11 to 7am except for essential personnel (thats police, EMTs, etc., and dont let your boss talk you into anything different!). While the interstate is currently closed from BR to Lafayette in both directions, there are no road closures in our parish YET. Theres a link to the DOTs official road closure listing in the first comment below. Red Stick Storm Spotters says our friends in Gonzales will be getting the wintry mix soon along with other areas south of I-10. If you absolutely have to get out on the road right now, Oak Point Fresh Market posted about an hour ago that theyre open and with minimal product outages. Speaking of outages, while Entergy has issued a statement saying that they expect some power outages due to this storm, DEMCO said in a FB comment about an hour ago that they dont intend to make any such statement because things are too much in the air still with weather changes, potential accidents, and a lot of rural customers. (I read that to mean, yeah, some folks probably will lose power, but we dont want to come out and say it like Entergy did because if things get really bad, people will say, You knew youd have outages and didnt do enough to prepare your customers.) DEMCO says to stay tuned for updates. Thats the highlights, now heres my advice: keep your cell phone on its charger today. If you havent already done this, reduce your app notifications and decrease your brightness level to reduce drain on the battery. (I suggest you do it now in case you have trouble figuring out how if your power goes off -- at least if you can ask for help on FB or Google it while your powers on). JUST IN CASE, go ahead and locate, and put in a central location (heck, a corner of your living room would do), a couple of flashlights and any extra batteries you have for them, sleeping bags or other blankets, candles and matches, your trusty manual can opener, a Weatheradio if you have one, and some non-electronic amusement for your family (puzzles, coloring books, cards). Prepare for the worst -- no power in very cold weather -- and hope for the best, the same way we do with hurricanes. Stay inside, safe and warm, if you can, friends!
