So today someone came to visit me at my shop. When I started my freshman year at Brick Memorial High School I was enrolled in metal shop, the teacher: Wayne Loveland (Vinny). From that first day in metal shop I was hooked, I now had a passion for metal fabrication. Mr. Loveland gave me the tools and knowledge to create things out of metal weather they were functional and artistic. If you didnt know Brick Memorial HS was the last High School in the state to have a functional metal shop. As of June 2014 it no longer exists. Mr. Loveland retired after 33 years of instructing and molding students. Not all of his students went the path most traveled, like myself. I took that knowledge and turned it into a successful business. So today Mr. Loveland, my teacher, my mentor, visited me today. What a humbling experience to say the least, he was amazed at what I built myself and my business into thus far. Before he left my shop, he said: I dont miss the teaching so much, I miss the classroom, the shop, I mean 33 years of being in the same classroom. I thought to myself wow and that I could never know what that was like. Thats a life time. Mr. Loveland you are more than welcome to spend time here at my shop and continue to teach and maybe learn a little while you still can. Thank you for everything, you changed my life.
