So tonight at work I was checking a patient into the system. As I was putting his wrist band on, the nurse asked if he had any allergies and the man replies Yep, Im allergic to faggots to which the nurse replies Yeah, arent we all! Im standing a foot from her while making contact with the man.... She knows Im gay. Im guessing he did too since it was said while I was engaging him. Needless to say, my view and respect for her plummeted in an instant. Later I caught up to her and asked why shed say such a thing and the response was Ohhhhh, I was just agreeing with him to get on his good side so hed cooperate teehee. Why??? If that were true you could have handled it completely differently. He wasnt even threatening or belligerent to begin with, and was almost completely compliant in comparison to many other patients. There was no need to butter him up and make such an idiotic statement when you were already fine with him, especially while Im standing righttttt next to you and we get along just fine and you see me everyday. Better responses include but are not limited to: Sir, that language is disrespectful and inappropriate What are you legitimately allergic to? or in your case, since you feel the need to passively agree with something rude in order to stay on his good side, ......................... NOT SAYING ANYTHING AT ALL. This way you cant fall or rise in his favor because you didnt give him anything to judge! Dense.... /end rant
