So upset at this point. My Army son is going through med board - TopicsExpress

So upset at this point. My Army son is going through med board now. In May he got diagnosed with Crohns disease. After months of fighting with the Army to give him medical attention, seeing army medics and being told it was the flu or virus and given fluid for dehydration, being taken to emergency twice by one of his friends to hopefully get down to the bottom of his being sick and loosing bowels all they did was give him IV for fluid for dehydration and the 2nd time they gave him meds for anti-acid reflux and anti-nausea. During all this time with his leaders not believing he was sick, he collapse one day on run because his legs were weak, and one day he told me all he could do was to lay in the tub because he was loosing his bowels so bad. Well, when he was a junior in high school he had some stomach issues and EDG and Colonoscopy done, never once was Crohns mentioned, they put him on 2 different anti-biotics because at that time they did not know if it was bacterial or virus that they were fighting. (mind you it has been 7 years for issues to service again) In the mean time I was doing some research online of some gastro issues. When he told me he was going to delay entry into the Army, I made a second opinion request for Iowa City, IA a main hospital here in Iowa because I thought we needed to know if it could be a disease. Doctor ran blood work, looked at his Waverly test results and told us that it is so hard to diagnose because it could mimic different diseases and that unless it came up again a diagnosis really could not be made. Well after all the shit he went thru (Army doctor even told him he should get a medal for all he went through) I told him that maybe we needed to send his Waverly records out there so maybe they could get a diagnosis by comparing with test ran in WA. Now they are using that early testing against him because they said we knew about it before he joined the Army. If he had been diagnosed with Crohns early (in junior year) wouldnt they have had him on some form of medication?? Once you have Crohns you have to stay on medication to prevent flares right?? Anybody help us on this. Apparently the medical board does not know the whole story as to what has taken place and are trying to screw him over. And another thing, when this happen after he got back from Afghanistan, was loosing weight that he could not afford to loose, loosing his bowels and not being able to hold food down, you would have thought that his leaders would be able to recognize that something was not right. For all we know it could have been a parasite that he picked up over there but nobody believed him. I finally contacted Bruce Braleys office and it seem that after that he got some action. I think there is Medical Incompetence on the part of the Armys leaders for not recognizing signs of a health issue.
