So we are on the hunt for a shelter dog for the Tiny Monster. In a few weeks well be moving after the baby is here and we want to find THE RIGHT dog to join our family. Ive been working with a really great local adoption group that has some good options but want to keep an eye out with friends to see if a perfect dog might be out there. To be considered I have a few specifics we must keep in mind that are an automatic yes/no case: 1) MUST be housebroken 2) Because of homeowners/renters inurance the following breeds and mixes are out (pitbull, doberman, rottie, german shepards, akitas). I know it is the owner and not the breed but we cannot afford to be kicked out of a house for owning the wrong dog. 3) Must be at least 8mos old (pref. 1yr or older) 4) Must have lived with an be VERY good with young kids. I add in here, the dog must have experience with toddlers and if possible children with special needs. We are going to have a newborn and a three-year-old around and the dog will need to be accepting of their noise and energy levels. 5) FOR THE LIVE OF ALL THAT IS FLUFFY... NO PURSE DOGS OR PUPPIES! While small dogs are cute, the toddler and I both require a medium sized dog who is pretty much done growing. Me, for knowing they will not be uncomfortable or out grow terms of our lease... toddler because he likes to wrestle and snuggle with/sleep on the dog.
