So what makes us Pinoy? Isnt it amusing that we celebrate death and equate it to festivity? When I was young I look forward for Undas or in our dialect kalag-kalag. It was a time to play games with my cousins and the presence of food was there. Yes, it is not good to always be sad or mourn for death but now that I am 20 its just fascinating to see that we Filipinos give big deal for All Saints day. I was in the cemetery few hours ago with my family. It was a tradition for us to be there every November 1 to visit the grave of my late grandmother. I was observing people and even the whole event. People there were in their tents many were merry making. Filipinos attitude of being masayahin will never fade it is a positive one but with this I have a deep thought of why do we have such tradition? We all know that November 2 should be the day for the dead and the fact that we must pay respect with them but are we really giving them respect? We have this identity as Filipinos but is this a good thing to have this? I dont want to be a deviant with the status quo of the society but why do we give so much effort with this in a non-solemn manner? It is not bad to be merry but do we really see the importance of such dates and tradition? I just want to state this. I am just curious. The Filipino culture is colorful and dynamic yet I think we dont give importance on it and we forget the real essence of this culture. (if naa man koy wrong gramming, pasensya na. trying hard to be a writer here. feel rah nako magsulat. dili pu ni rant. char2 lang ni.) God bless and good night. Thank you for reading.
