So ... yesterday ... I left at 10.15 am to allow for roadworks/finding a park somewhere Id never been before and to be on time for my appointment with Jo at 11.15 am in Port Pirie to do the paperwork before having my CGM put on at 11.30 am in front of all the healthcare professionals and then be on my way shopping and home ... or so I thought. Turned out I was the Guest Speaker (although no one had deigned to tell me this!) and I didnt get finished up there until 1.30 pm which is when I thought Id be home by! This included a false start with the CGM as the first one didnt go in properly :-/ So off I go to my car where Im greeted by a horrible noise when I try to start it telling me that, even though Paul just changed the battery due to this happening a few days ago in Jamestown, the battery is not charged enough to start it! Then the horrible realisation hits me that I left my phone at home and dont know any numbers off by heart any more as theyre all stored in that precious gadget that we can no longer live without. Panic starts to set in and an overwhelming urge to cry which I manage to fight off as I have to walk back in the building and see if Emmas still around and if shes going back to Jamestown and if shed mind giving me a lift home. Found Jo but no Emma so Jo gave me her phone to ring Emma on - no answer. Meanwhile I think Ive managed to remember the number of where Paul works so give that a go next - this number is out of service or some such. Emma rings and says thats fine to give me a lift home but she wont be leaving until about 2.30 pm which is fine by me as what else am I going to do?! OK, try a slightly different ending for Pauls work number - YAY Mardis voice on the other end of the phone! Think I managed to hide the tremble in my voice as I ask for Ralph (thats another story!). Tell Paul whats happened and he insists on coming over there and then (20 mins from Hallett to Jamestown and 45 mins from Jamestown to Port Pirie!) to try and get my car going otherwise hell just have to come over another time anyway. Walk down to Caffe Primo with Jo to find Emma and let her know that I wont need a lift home now. Everyone keeps offering me food and my first thought is I cant I didnt bring my injection stuff, then I remember Im on the pump so I could if I knew the carbs! Plus point for the pump! With all the stress of the time and the car and Paul having to leave work early which means loss of money as hes a Contractor I decide I dont actually have any appetite. So back to the building and sitting around waiting for hubby to arrive. Do a blood test just before I reckon hes due and then a correction bolus (which the pump works out automatically) as Im slightly high which would have been fine if Id been going off shopping and driving home but not good for sitting around waiting. TWO MINUTES LATER the stupid CGM sensor starts beeping at me to do its first calibration blood test - why on earth couldnt it just use the one Id JUST DONE?! >-( So another blood test. Paul arrives and after much deliberation (thats the polite way to cover what happened!) decided to swap batteries so I have a fully charged battery and he has an alternator that works! Off to Coles with Paul following me then home at last. Hear CGM beeping at me on the drive home so no choice but to ignore it but wonder what on earth its beeping about. On way home Im trying to play the Glad Game and think at least I can be glad that after all that at least I have the CGM which will give us some fantastic data to use for tweaking the pump. Get home safely about 4.30 pm, get the shopping in, lift up T-shirt to check on all the in me things and to my absolute horror I see the CGM hanging off me by the tiniest amount of sticky stuff on the covering dressing but not actually in me any more!!! I cannot describe the feeling after the day Id had except to say that when I then rang Emma to ask when she would next be at work for me to drop the CGM off to her I had to keep apologising about my language! A short while later Emma rocked up at my door saying that shed rung Jo who had promptly done a U-turn just North of Port Wakefield to come back and re-insert it! By now Id decided I was not going to be cooking lasagne as previously planned and would be having a liquid tea. I informed Emma of this and that I wasnt sure how sober Id be by the time Jo got here. BIG wine glass came out to play. So the end of all that was that Jo did come back, re-inserted the CGM, got to see our bar and went on her way again to her Christmas Show!!! I had a late supper of cheese and biscuits and went to bed. I shall then cover my first infusion set change adventure in another Status!
