Soldiers arrest 16 girls being trained as Boko Haram suicide bombers in Kano SOLDIERS in Kano have arrested 16 girls believed to be would- be suicide bombers bussed into the city from Sambisa Forest in Borno State by terrorist sect Boko Haram to partake in a training exercise. Of late, Boko Haram has been using women and girls to carry out bombings, strapping them with explosives and sending them into highly populated centres. In many cases, the females are not aware of the contents of the packages they are carrying and several have been blown up after their cargoes were detonated. Last month, a 10-year -old girl was arrested in Funtua in Katsina State, along with a man after both were found wired up and on a suicide bombing mission. Many people have been killed lately in Kano, Kaduna and in Borno states by female suicide bombers carrying explosives under their hijabs. Yesterday, however soldiers from the Joint Task Force (JTF) arrested a man called Ibrahim Ibrahim in Kano, believed to be the girls trainer. During the arrest, they picked up 16 of his trainees too and all of them are currently undergoing interrogation. Sources in Kano said the teenage girls were arrested when security men swooped on the place where they were being trained following a tip- off. JTF spokesman Captain Ikechukwu Eze confirmed the arrest, saying investigations were still ongoing.
