Soldiers in the Upper West Regional capital, Wa are said to have brutalised female students of the Wa Islamic Senior High School who were protesting the high cost of fees imposed on them by the authorities. The soldiers allegedly invaded the girls dormitory of the mixed school and started beating the riotous students. Two of the students have been left injured and hospitalised, Joy News Upper West Region correspondent Rafiq Salam reported. The incident happened Thursday morning. The head master, Abdul Rahman Tampuori had gone to discuss with the students, a possible hike in school fees but the students reportedly resisted the hikes, saying it was too expensive. The students then went on a hunger strike in protest over the hikes in the fees. The school authorities were reported to have invited the police to intervene in the matter but the situation turned chaotic when the students allegedly pelted them with stones. The military was then invited to restore calm but they are said to have been heavy handed, with some invading the girls dormitory and brutalising the students.
