Some Foods May Assist Tooth Whitening Efforts. Drawing on comments from American Dental Association spokesman Dr. Matthew Messina, Harper’s Bazaar (12/14, Marino) reported that chewing seeds, nuts and other “lightly abrasive, hard foods rubs plaque and stains off the surface of teeth.” The article specifically recommended almonds, which it reported are “full of protein, healthy fats, and the crunch you need to get pearly whites.” The article also reported that Dr. Messina recommended eating onions, because their lack of color means little or no risk of stains; using baking soda as toothpaste; eating broccoli; and occasionally eating a small amount of orange. by: ADA Morning Huddle
