Some fun facts. Just some fascinating (at least I think so, but Im a nerd so...) things Ive come across as I intensify my research into the history of the world. I dont expect these to be taken at face value, but rather as honest skeptics research the matter for yourselves if you are interested and come to your own conclusions. 1) False- the books of the New Testament were chosen at random without consideration of what the early Christians believed doctrine wise, that it is impossible to tell what they believed for certain. Fact- There are lots and lots of writings from Christians in the 1st and 2nd century that have survived, and they quote what would become the books of the New Testament a LOT! So much in fact, that if all the existing copies of the New Testament were to disappear off the face of the Earth, you could from these quotes alone reconstruct the entire New Testament VERBATUM and would only be missing 11 verses(out of 2 and 3John)!! That should tell us that what we are reading in the Bible is in fact what they were teaching and preaching. 2) False- Trinitarian doctrine arose from the Council of Nicea. Fact- While this is a common belief, the 250 bishops at the council overwhelmingly voted in favor of the doctrine that Jesus is God in the flesh, not a separate person from God. This tells us that us that the oneness of God in the person of Jesus was still widespread teaching in Christianity even by the 4th century AD. The likely truth(just a theory mind you) is that Trinitarianism in Christianity came about slowly over the following centuries, rather than a singular event. Likely from modifying the doctrine to something more familiar and easy for the pagans to accept so as to attract more converts. (The idea of a triune God features heavily in ancient Celtic religion especially, and is a major foundation of modern Wiccan belief) 3) False- The lost tribes of Israel are represented by modern nations. Fact- There are lots of different theories and teachings about this, with diverse interpretations, but through examination all are inaccurate. The Jewish people do not form the main cultural or ethnological pillar of any nation existing today(except Israel) but have been a minority element wherever they have gone. We can trace the ancestory of the different tribes of people who form the main cultural element of various nations and none are descended from Israel. I wont go into too much detail, but just a quick example. England. The British Celts who the Romans conquered are the Cymru, who by historical record are traced back to Gomer son of Japheth. The Italians themselves who mixed with the Celts are descended from several families, none of them Israelite. The Saxons who conquered them later, where we get the main foundation of English language and culture, are traced back to Asshur son of Shem. And in studying the other nations where the Jews spread, we get similar results. So to say any nation, such as England or Spain, is a lost tribe of Israel is like saying that Texas is a lost tribe of Germany, even though Texas has many German descended people. Well, lunch break over! Hope this was interesting, at the least that it will spur a desire in those who are into history to dig deep and be research, and be wary of various ideas thrown out there by arm chair historians with a internet camera and an agenda! We serve a God after all who speaks only truth, in Him is no falseness, and He in fact is the Truth.
