CAA were successful in bidding into the NSW Department of Primary Industry native fish stocking program. This program saw the NSW government matching dollar for dollar CAA funding for purchase of cod fingerlings. The fish are being supplied by a Wagga Wagga hatchery, Murray Darling Fisheries, headed by Mr Noel Penfold. CAA is one of the oldest fishing clubs in the region having been formed in 1948. While it has a focus on trout, the club interests in the local fishing scene including native fish. CAA concern over the management, conservation and enhancement of fish and fish habitat in the local area led to CAA being a foundation member of the Capital Region Fishing Alliance. CRFA acts as a peak body for fishing clubs in the region and has focus on “Fish, Habitat, Access and Participation”. As part of its activities, CRFA has been successful in gaining grants to improve fish habitat including resnagging of the Queanbeyan River. CAA cod stocking will complement this habitat improvement.
