Some heartbreaking news about Ozzy. I had to send him to the Bridge this morning. I found him sleeping in a crate Sunday morning and when I called him to get up, I saw he had lost control of his bladder. When he got out of his crate, he staggered a little and then lied back down to sleep. I checked his gums and they were pale. I know that means something is seriously wrong but he did not appear to be in any discomfort. I considered taking him to the emergency vet but as he is 14 years old and did not seem to be in pain, I decided to save him that trauma and give him a chance to pass on his own. He just slept all day and still wouldnt eat. When I saw he was the same this morning, I took him to my vet. X-rays showed a huge mass in his abdomen plus several smaller ones. Surgery would have been very invasive and my vet recommended we let him go. I was with him the whole time stroking him and talking to him. He went very quickly and peacefully. Ozzy had a long history of ongoing tummy problems that he was treated for with medications, according to the people taking care of him and the vet records I had. I really dont understand why his previous vets never thought to take an x-ray. Obviously, these masses didnt just happen overnight. This picture is from yesterday, the last one. I checked in on him often to give him some love and he did seem to be sleeping peacefully all day. Im so sad I didnt get to spend more time with this sweet boy.
