Some negative reviews of local businesses posted here seem to be based on isolated incidents of bad service. I feel it is more appropriate to bring complaints to managers or owners of businesses to see if the issue can be resolved or restitution can be made/paid. Word of mouth can be very powerful and can cause a lot of harm that could otherwise be avoided if the appropriate chain of command was followed. The next step is to complain via the online sites for that company. Going to the top may spur a business to educate its employees or change a practice for the better, and then everyone benefits.
