The Writer’s Predicament By Apolinario - TopicsExpress

The Writer’s Predicament By Apolinario Villalobos Pleasing the readers is not an easy task. Letting out ideas and putting them in cohesive order on the screen of a computer is easy, but the dilemma is how to temper the composition to suit the reader’s appreciation of the expressed thought either in poetry or prose. The most difficult to please, are those who delight in finding inadvertently misspelled words, and what for them is literary ignorance due to the absence of appropriate punctuation marks, practically, forgetting that writing is a unique expression that differs according to the writer. These critics intentionally disregard the message being shared. In essays, the writer can easily spell out his thoughts. But in poetry, some readers are still overly conscious of the basic textbook form which calls for rhymes and meter. Modern poets are brave enough to break the rules. Taking the cue from the haiku style which may just be comprised of three or four lines with three or four words each, or, even less, and practically, without rhyme, they proudly go ahead with their own style which is a twenty-four degree turnaround from the traditional forms. This stubborness, makes the self-proclaimed critics even more adamant. Imagine a poem composed of single words vertically arranged, or poems with two-word lines diagonally arranged! Check my definition of poetry if it can give you a headache: Poetry -is an emotional Outpouring of feelings In one word or more Replete with colorful undertones That give it rhythmic renditions Even the astonished look Of a deaf mute With an open mouth Could mean, “oh!” Or , “hey!” Or simply “no!” So, that is poetry Universal No periphery Simply Language of the soul Expressed by the heart In any way – As I may say….
