Some news to start the week: CfP2 The call for proposals to cover the Erongo, Hardap, Kavango (East and West), Omaheke, Oshikoto and Otjozondjupa regions was announced on Tuesday. The full details and associated documentation can be found at csfnam.org. We are keen to build on the example of those applicants for CfP1 who either applied for an existing partnership or established a partnership for that call. Accordingly, we have decided to hold an information session for CSOs based in Windhoek on Monday 27 January, 2014. Full details of this session are in the summary Namibia Civil Society Support Programme – CfP2 below, including how to book for this information session. Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders The Washington Fellowship is the flagship program of President Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative. President Obama launched the programme in 2010 to support young African leaders as they spur growth and prosperity, strengthen democratic governance, and enhance peace and security across Africa. Namibia is included in the countries covered by the programme. The closing date for applications is January 27, 2014. If you know of someone who would like to consider this opportunity, then read more in Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders below CfP1 We are sorry that we have not been able to announce the results of the CfP1 call. We completed our work on the call early in December and hope that our conclusions will be approved soon. We will keep you informed. Best wishes Andrew Harris Executive Director Namibia Civil Society Support Programme – CfP2 Namibia Civil Society Support Programme – CfP2 (NCSSP) A Programme funded by the European Union You may have noticed the announcement this week in the national press of the second Call for Proposals under the EU funded Namibia Civil Society Support Programme (NCSSP). The second Call covers the same Regions as the first (ie. Erongo, Otjozondjupa, Omaheke and Hardap), with the addition of Oshikoto, Kavango East and Kavango West. The overall theme of CfP2 relates to innovative approaches to sustainable poverty reduction. Within this, four lots are available as follows: • 1: Increased rural employment opportunities • 2: Improved environment & conservation • 3: Improved access to community services • 4: Enhanced agricultural production. The Call is open to legal, non-profit making organisations, including Trusts and Foundations; Companies not for gain; and Development-oriented entities incorporated under Acts of Parliament, Government Policies or Cabinet decisions (eg. co-operatives, conservancies, etc). In addition, eligibility of primary applicants has been extended to include Welfare Organisations and Voluntary Associations (which have been operational for at least 5 years and have had an annual turnover at least equal to the amount of grant funding requested over the past 3 years). Although NCSSP is attempting to reach NGOs based outside Windhoek, in reality there are few such organisations with the capacity to manage the rather complex procedures involved. For this reason, if the applicant cannot meet the criterion of having undertaken at least one project of relevance to this CfP in the targeted Regions, then it can be fulfilled by a co-applicant. It is thus hoped that the larger, more experienced national NGOs will partner with local NGOs in the Regions. This will not only help ensure that we maximise expenditure of the grants funding available in the targeted areas to the benefit of local populations, but also in the process enhance the experience and capacity of less developed NGOs in efficiently managing and implementing grant-funded projects. I would also draw your attention to the fact that an applicant may apply for and receive multiple grants, subject of course to capacity to manage several contracts simultaneously. This offers the possibility of developing several projects with different partners in different areas. In view of the above, and in addition to our outreach activities in the targeted Regions, FCG / CSFN will hold an information session on CfP2 for Windhoek- based organisations on Monday 27 January 2014, from 10.00 am to 12.00pm. This will take place at the Polytechnic Hotel and Tourism School, C/O Beethoven and Brahms, Windhoek West. We would be grateful if you could confirm your attendance by emailing Peter – peter11.fcgi-csfn@outlook – by Thursday 23 January 2014. In the meantime, documents may be downloaded from the CSFN website - csfnam.org . Alternatively, hard copies of the Guidelines and Application form, and a CD ROM containing all documents may be collected from the NANGOFT / CSFN offices at 24 Mozart Street, Windhoek West. We look forward to seeing you at the information session. Regards and best wishes for 2014.
