Some numbers to ponder. Over 1000 people killed by police officers - TopicsExpress

Some numbers to ponder. Over 1000 people killed by police officers in 2014. 114 police officers died in 2014. Only about 60 of those during confrontations with suspects. There are over 900,000 police officers in this country. That means .00007% of police officers killed by suspects in 2014. That doesnt really seem like that dangerous of a job. Police officer isnt in the top 10 of most dangerous jobs. If we use the number of people killed while doing their job as a measurement of how well armed a person needs to be to do their job, then Farmers, construction workers and lumberjacks should be packing machine guns. They are killed at a much higher rate than police officers. The duty and purpose of Police Officers needs to change. It needs to return to keeping the peace and being proactive in the community. Now a days they are just an oppressive force that does not respect the average citizen. They treat everyone as a suspect. They want respect, but they must give respect to receive respect. There are several countries in this world that dont have armed police officers and they manage just fine. Officers are taught the art of deescalation. Police in this country go from 0 to 100 in a second. They use their fire arm as a compliance tool instead of a defensive tool. The only time you point a weapon at someone is if you are ready to shoot them. Basic fire arm training. No longer do they adhere to the Use of Force Continuum. Level of force equal to force received. Running from police is not equal to pulling a fire arm. Im sorry, but resisting arrest does not garner killing the suspect. We need to get back to basic Policing methods. We need to take the role of Code Ordinance Enforcement Revenue Generators out of the job title and return them to Peace Officers.
