Some of my liberal friends might not agree with me here, but I think that folks receiving welfare should be doing this. Why? First the Conservatives wont be able to gripe that they are freeloaders, as they will be earning their money through good old hard work. Second while filling in pot holes doesnt take a whole lot of skill, working along side road crews and proving ones mettle might lead to other opportunities. Finally, working, at anything, increases ones self worth. I strongly believe that most people on government assistance do not want to be on assistance and want to work and be productive members of society. Giving them a way to pull themselves up cant be a bad idea, and since the government is already giving them a check it wont cost more money, something the conservatives would appreciate. Inmates, they have already proven that they can not handle society. They are in jail for punishment and should be behind bars not on to the streets.
