Some people are just wicked and heartless, i was at a cyber cafe this morning where the boss arrived some minutes earlier before one of his employees, a timid little boy, without querying the boy for his late coming, he asked him to kneel down and could not resist the urge to knock and slap the little boy intermittently. This kind of cruel treatment humans are still subjected to in the name of apprenticeship makes me a tad irritated yet in Nigeria and places around the world over, apprenticeship is slavery redefined. We have rights that are outrightly denied, carelessly abused and flagrantly violated by people in position of authority. Slavery still exists in form of nefarious trafficking to callousness on the path of those whose mercy we are at. I wanted to rise and speak in defense of the boy but i was only there to get a scanning job done and not to upset the boss from his balance. I could liken the boss to a supremo, he is such a detestable person, a control freak who expected to be readily obeyed without questioning and had unfettered power over his employees, such kind of power when wielded by any mortal is always prone to abuse. His demands were peremptory and his orders were quickly executed in a servile manner, he sounded like one who would use a sledge hammer to crack a walnut at the slightest thought of provocation from one of his employees, but they were all happy to have lost their voices and do the bidding of the master in their quietude and overwhelming subservience. My job was completed, i paid for it and took my leave while asking myself the question, is it more useful to be feared than liked?
